What is SparkX- AI Challenge

The SparkX – Artificial Intelligence challenge, organized by STEMLearn.AI and Techfest IIT Bombay in collaboration with CIR–IIIT Allahabad, is a national innovation challenge for school students (Grades 6–12).
SparkX- AI Challenge empowers young innovators to learn Artificial Intelligence, build intelligent prototypes, and solve real-world challenges through a blend of AI, robotics, and physical computing. Finalists will showcase their creations live at Techfest, IIT Bombay — Asia’s Largest Science
& Technology Festival.

Shortlisted finalists will present their AI prototypes live at Techfest IIT Bombay 2025, judged by
a panel of experts, researchers, and industry leaders.

1. What is SparkX – The AI Challenge?

SparkX is a national-level innovation and prototyping challenge organized by STEMLearn.AI in collaboration with Techfest, IIT Bombay. It gives students a platform to apply Artificial Intelligence and Robotics to solve real-world problems through working prototypes.

2. Who can participate in the competition?

Students from Grades 6 to 12 across India can participate.
There are two categories:
● Junior Innovators (Grades 6–8)
● Senior Visionaries (Grades 9–12)

3. Is participation individual or in teams?

Participants can compete individually or in teams of up to 5 members. Inter-school teams are also allowed.

4. How can I register for the competition?

You can register through the official Techfest, IIT Bombay website or via the STEMLearn.AI SparkX page. A registration confirmation and Team ID will be shared after successful sign-up.

5. What are the themes for this year’s challenge?

Each category has three AI-driven themes:
Junior Innovators:
1. AI for Environmental Monitoring
2. Smart Learning & Accessibility
3. Child Safety & Wellbeing
Senior Visionaries:
1. Sustainable Cities & Inclusive Mobility
2. Accessible Healthcare & Diagnostics
3. Future of Work & Automation

6. What is the format of the competition?

The challenge is conducted in multiple stages:
1. AI Olympiad (Qualifier)
2. AI & Robotics Workshop
3. Idea Presentation
4. Prototype Submission
5. Grand Finale at Techfest, IIT Bombay

7. What kind of projects are expected?

Participants are expected to design AI-integrated prototypes using simple hardware (e.g., Arduino, sensors, Raspberry Pi) that address one of the listed themes.

8. What are the evaluation criteria?

Projects will be judged on:
● Innovation & Relevance
● AI Model Design
● Working Prototype & Integration
● Presentation & Impact

9. Are there any participation fees?

Yes, a nominal registration fee applies (details on Techfest portal). Schools registering multiple teams may get group benefits.

10. What kind of rewards are offered?

Top 3 teams per category receive trophies, certificates, and cash prizes. All finalists receive certificates from Techfest IIT Bombay and STEMLearn.AI.

11. Will participants receive training or mentorship?

Yes. Shortlisted students will attend AI & Robotics workshops conducted by experts from IITs and STEMLearn.AI to help refine their ideas.

12. When and where will the final round take place?

The Grand Finale will be held live at Techfest, IIT Bombay in December 2025.

13. Can simulation projects be submitted instead of hardware prototypes?

Yes. Teams can use platforms like Tinkercad or Proteus if they don’t have physical hardware access, but real-world functionality is preferred.

14. Will all participants get certificates?

Yes. Every participant who completes the required stages will receive an e-certificate of participation.
